Fertilizer is about to begin the implementation of environmental certification

When it comes to chemical fertilizer products, government regulators, production enterprises and the majority of farmers often consider that its quality is unqualified, the effective nutrient content and effective dose do not meet the standards, and its use safety and environmental protection performance are rarely paid attention to. This situation is expected to improve with the introduction of a new measure for the certification of agricultural chemicals and environmentally friendly products.
According to the results of China ’s first census of pollution sources announced on February 9, more than 40% of China ’s major water pollutant emissions came from agricultural pollution sources. This has a lot to do with the large-scale application of chemical fertilizers in agriculture, the unscientific application of chemical fertilizers and the poor environmental performance of chemical fertilizers themselves.
The head of the technical department of Beijing Sinochem United Certification Company, who undertook the topic of "Research on the Implementation of Environmental Product Certification for Agricultural Fertilizers and Other Agricultural Chemicals" proposed by the National Certification and Accreditation Regulatory Commission, said in recent years that with the development of chemical fertilizers and other agricultural chemicals As the quantity increases, the situation of soil pollution is becoming more and more serious. In addition to the main nutrients nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, and trace nutrients in calcium, magnesium, sulfur, boron, manganese, iron, zinc, copper, etc., there are some toxic and harmful substances that can cause direct harm to crop growth and human and livestock. Compounds such as biuret, chloride and arsenic, cadmium, lead, chromium, mercury and other elements. In 2000, the Ministry of Agriculture's sampling results of harmful heavy metals in the soil of 300,000 hectares of basic farmland protection showed that the content of harmful heavy metals in 36,000 hectares of farmland exceeded the standard, and the rate of exceeding the standard was 12%. In recent years, heavy metal pollution poisoning incidents have occurred from time to time, which is not related to agricultural fertilization.
The content of heavy metals in nitrogen and potassium fertilizers is low, and the phosphate fertilizer contains more harmful heavy metals. The heavy metals of compound fertilizers are mainly derived from the masterbatch and processing processes. For example, arsenic in fertilizers mainly comes from industrial sulfuric acid and phosphate rock. Ammonium sulfate, superphosphate, and zinc sulfate made from crude sulfuric acid contain arsenic compounds. The presence of arsenic will affect the yield of crops. At the same time, arsenic compounds are highly toxic and easily accumulate in the human body, causing chronic poisoning, such as digestive symptoms, nervous system symptoms and skin lesions, and even have carcinogenic effects.
When agricultural chemicals containing heavy metals enter the soil, they will not only affect the safety of the ecosystem such as the atmosphere and water, but also be absorbed by plants, resulting in a reduction in the production of food crops and a decline in the quality of agricultural products, which will directly harm the growth and development of agricultural products, especially the health of humans and animals. . More seriously, heavy metals cannot be biodegraded in the ecological chain. After the human body ingests these heavy metal-contaminated crops, poultry and egg foods or drinks contaminated water, some of the heavy metal substances will eventually be excreted with feces.
At present, organic fertilizer is very popular with farmers and is also regarded as an environmentally friendly fertilizer. However, a large part of the organic fertilizer comes from human and animal feces, so that the heavy metal elements return to the soil, forming a vicious cycle. Moreover, heavy metal pollution in soil is irreversible, and there is currently no mature international treatment method for heavy metal pollution in soil, which urgently needs to start from the source of the food chain of chemical fertilizers.
Fertilizer safety is the source guarantee of food safety, this view has been strongly advocated by the International Fertilizer Association. Developed countries have established a very strict management system for chemical fertilizer products. In recent years, China ’s agricultural products have failed to meet the requirements due to ecological indicators, which has repeatedly prevented exports. In contrast, China's environmental protection and safety certification of chemical fertilizers and other agricultural chemicals has always been a blank.
The national standard of "Ecological Indicators of Arsenic, Cadmium, Lead, Chromium and Mercury in Fertilizers" promulgated in 2009 provides an opportunity for the implementation of voluntary environmental certification products for chemical fertilizers. The standard specifies the ecological index requirements, test methods and inspection rules for heavy metals arsenic, cadmium, lead, chromium and mercury in chemical fertilizers. Based on this, Beijing Sinochem United Certification Co., Ltd. undertook the topic of “Research on the Implementation of Environmental Product Certification for Agricultural Fertilizers and Other Agricultural Chemicals” proposed by the National Accreditation Administration, and has established a project special team, which is currently being organized for investigation. Analysis and preliminary research. After the completion of the topic, it will be promoted from April to June this year, introducing a third-party evaluation mechanism, accepting applications from fertilizer manufacturers and implementing certification.
Ping Hua, the technical person in charge of the project, said that he hopes to promote the voluntary environmental protection certification of chemical fertilizer products, enhance the social responsibility of chemical fertilizer production enterprises, fill in the gaps in the certification of voluntary environmental protection products of chemical fertilizers, and promote priority development in the society. The concept of producing and using environmentally friendly ecological fertilizers. It is also recommended that the relevant government departments use the certification results as a prerequisite for mandatory access to the fertilizer industry when conditions permit.
It is reported that after the implementation of this system in the fertilizer industry, if it is implemented well, it will indeed play a positive role in environmental protection and safety. In the future, it may be expanded to other agricultural chemicals such as chemical pesticides and agricultural films.
